A permanent setup would be nice if you could add a small 8" sub to round out the sound profile. Second reason would be to use for a subwoofer output. One, acting like a Sonos Connect to hook to the input on a receiver and utilize your home system as part of the Pioneer network.

Tired of adapters for non portable devices. And if you're on android, your phone can piggyback on the Sonos wifi network which is nice if you're in a big house. Maybe at some point, but definitely not yet.Īnother nice thing with Sonos is each device is part of its own wifi network that's not dependent on your wifi router. Though two Play 3's can be configured for L & R stereo which you can't do with the Pioneer. You can't rely on there always being a deal for a free bridge. At $99 it's decent considering a Sonos Play 3 is three times as much and requires a bridge for another $50. You have multiple options with the Pioneer from the basic A1, the weatherproof portable A3 and the top end A4 that is like an A1 with a powered sub. These are attempts at system audio with multiple sound sources.

I haven't tried the aux in yet, but I wonder if the aux in to one speaker can be played on other speakers like it can on Sonos.įor those trying to compare to basic bluetooth speakers, you need to get a clue and read up on all this offers.

For a 1st time effort it's not too shabby. I hope Pioneer builds up their system to compete more against Sonos. Think the A5 might come somewhere between the Sonos Play 3 and Play 5 for less money than the Play 3. For $99 it's still a good deal, and I think the recent price drop makes all three peakers a viable option for whole house audio. And with wifi direct you don't need a router for a connection to your phone.įor $50 this is a steal, and I'll definitely keep all three for use throughout the house. It too is in a different league than sub $100 bluetooth speakers. The A1 does sound significantly better than the JBL Flip for the one that asked. Sonos is simply the most polished system out there. Stronger more reinforced lows and higher volume on the Play 5. I have a Play 5 and the Pioneer doesn't come close. It is more functional, more complete and even the Play 3 sounds better. There's also another download for the app to do Pandora, Internet radio and accessing local content. Good time to change the friendly name if you want.

After the update, redo the network setup above.

Remember to unzip the zip file and select the unzipped fw file, not the zip file. ****Do not try and use the phone app yet. Unit reboots and when the network led is solid blue, you're connected

Choose the SSID and then the password (passphrase) and click Apply

Go to network configuration and follow the auto setup Type in which takes you to the setup page hop on your phone (easier for me than on the computer) and go to a web browser. Hold Volume Down and the network setup button on the back for three seconds and the unit will reboot. Power On and wait for indicator to stop flashing Opening up the start guide and going to C I believe is the easiest for basic wifi setup. Once I realized it was like hooking up those wifi adapters, it was fairly easy.
